It's cold and dark but we are still here

In the Summer training is easy. OK, you have to deal with heat but at least the sun is up early and sets late. Winter training is hard. The morning crew is training before the sun comes up and the evening crew is coming in after dark. It's not just dark, it's freaking cold! BUT we still do it because our goals are more important than our comfort.

Training will always be hard. If we don’t have a system in place to keep our motivation going, we run the risk of falling off. We all know how easy it is to skip a session. Skip a few in a row and now we are not going back for a while. It’s not just you, we all can fall off the same way.

I find the 1st line of defense is staying connected to the initial spark that got me training in the 1st place. Nobody started to train just to train, we all started to achieve something, overcome something, or become something. We have to stay on the path towards that goal or maintain it if it has been achieved.

Training with others and having someone to answer to is the best way to keep on track. When people are depending on you, it definitely keeps the motivation up to get in and get the work done. Mutually beneficial training is the top of the food chain! When you know somebody is waiting and depending on you, it is harder to stay on the couch. Get out of the solitary mindset and get involved with hard charging people. You will go harder and farther with help. Don’t go it alone!

It’s about halfway thru January. Will you be one of the one’s still standing after the “Resolution” crowd fades? Will you still be here getting it done tomorrow, next week, next month, next year…. The job is not done until you breath your last breath. Push yourself to be more today than you were yesterday so you can squeeze the most out of life. Don’t look back and wish you did more. Look back and know you did everything you could.
