Karl Roberson Impressive @ CFFC, July 18th
Karl Roberson thought he was taking a needed break from training before coming back to camp for a scheduled bout in September. Then the call came, with the perfect opponent, and the right deal to get back to work. On 10 days notice, Karl agreed to take on Mike Wilcox. Wilcox is a Div III National Champion Wrestler, wrestling coach, and Daniel Gracie fighter, out of Philadelphia with a pro record of 4 wins with 2 losses.
Karl stepped into the cage for his 2nd pro fight Saturday night a huge underdog, but we at Killer B knew differently. We watched the clips and talked it thru with our training partners and friends in the know. We all agreed that this was not a good fight for Wilcox.
The bout started off with Karl blasting 2 round kicks high on Wilcox. Wilcox shot in for a takedown which Karl sidestepped, leaving Wilcox falling to the mat. Back on his feet Wilcox knew he had to force his way in, which he did, and a short fence battle began with both fighters having equal advantage times. Wilcox eventually got the takedown and attempted ground and pound, but Karl wasn’t having any of that. Karl swept Wilcox to his back and passed his guard to gain top mount. From top Karl scored with some punches and a big elbow. Wilcox scrambled to reverse positions, which he did, but Karl let him go. It was a trap to set up the armbar in which Karl finished the fight just passed 3 minutes into the 1st round.
This upset victory maintains Karl’s undefeated MMA record and propels him forward that much closer to his dream of fighting for a big organization like the UFC. Karl is scheduled to fight this September at Ring of Combat plus we are fielding other exciting offers for other events.
